In June, at the National Texel show, we learned why Texel sheep have all that lovely muscling without being tough to eat. It is do to the fact that Texel sheep are the only breed of sheep to naturally have a gene (and usually 2 copies) called the Myostatin Gene.
This gene is truely unique to Texel sheep, and when using Texel rams as a terminal sire, 1 copy will be passed onto their offspring. Thus, these lambs will display added muscling, which means more pounds per lamb at weaning.

It's spring here at FISHER TEXELS
and this years lambs are some of the best that we have raised in our 8 years of raising TEXEL SHEEP!

Our main goal is to produce a high-quality breeding ram and/or ewe that will add that quality to your flock. We also strive to provide tender, tasty lamb for your dinner table. FISHER TEXELS is located in west-central Idaho. Just a stone's throw from Oregon on highway 95, which runs north from Canada south to Nevada. We are only 1/4 of a mile off of the highway and easy to find if you would like to stop by and take a gander at our sheep. We'd love to give you a tour.
